More course improvements
Dear students --
Over the next few days we are going to be implementing the following improvements to the course.
1. More structured Discussion Board . We have added more structure to the discussion board in order to make it easy to find relevant information and to reduce the number of parallel postings. We are trying to move some of the old threads to the relevant new categories, so don't be surprised if the location of your favorite old thread has moved.
2. Additional practice problems . We are going to add a new page containing additional OPTIONAL practice problems for each unit. The questions and solutions will be provided in pdf files. We emphasize that these problems are optional: they don't affect your grade and you should work on them only if you want more practice.
3. Lecture note materials . We are also adding a new page containing a pdf file with lecture note materials for each unit. These notes are, basically, cleaned up versions of the boards that I generate during the video lectures. We encourage you to print them before you watch the lectures and to take notes on them.

About solutions to the problem sets
Based on the experience of the first two days, we have decided to implement a change in policy regarding the solutions to the problem sets.
New policy: The correct solution and a detailed sketch of how to solve the problem is now provided to every student immediately after the problem set is submitted.
Important Honor Code Rules:
We hope that this will contribute to maximize your learning from the course.

Small modification to how the lab grades are computed
In order to accommodate on-line students who can't participate in the actual labs, due to the fact that they are only offered at specific US friendly times, we have implemented the following modification to how the lab grades are computed.
The total grade per lab is now given by max(prep+performance+discussion, 1.5*prep + 1.5*discussion).
This means that those who can't participate won't be penalized in the computation of their final grade.
